When analyzed in its simplest form, isn’t most art really the calling to make something exceptional out of ordinary materials? Aren’t artists of all mediums trying to spin straw into gold? Case in point: this past week Denver’s own Shawn Huckins used his combination of classic painting skill and a brazen sense of humor to transform paint color swatches– the ultimate in banal substance material–into a hell of an art show.
Blowing them up to be absurdly over-sized and adding hilarious human elements, the paintings are equal parts wit and aesthetic. Probably the most brilliant part of the color swatches are the great hues and fact that it’s guaranteed you’ll be able to find a palette to match your taste.
