By Raymundo Muñoz

Humankind has a very special relationship with fire: as destructive as it may be, it also brings us together. We can’t help but be mesmerized by it and drawn to its warmth and power. Sandwiched luckily and oh so beautifully between two snowstorms (just days apart) was the cozy official opening and collector’s preview for “spark & ruin: anatomy of a flame” on display at Helikon Gallery. Guest-curated by 1of1 Magazine’s Jarred De Palo and Raymundo Muñoz, the show brought together 13 of Colorado’s finest–Nathan Abels, CT Nelson, Ed Johnson, Regina Benson, Alex G Williamson, Stephanie Amos, Andrew Novick, Brandan StylesDonny Dixon, Andrea Fast, Terrence Poorthunder, David Atkinson–in an eclectic exhibition of varied media aimed at exploring the beauty and destructive nature of fire. All the elements of a good fireside chat were there: the gallery was the hearth, the artists brought the flame, and the people gathered–bringing warmth and passion with them. Many thanks to all who helped make this show happen and, of course, to all the art lovers that came out to support it. Photos are from opening reception on Tues. Feb. 3. More information about the show can be found at Helikon’s website. Original works can be purchased here.
